👋 About LawkFrom Building Grassroots Tech Communities to Safeguarding Global Platforms.
Lawrence Kisuuki (Lawk) is a Kampala-based Trust & Safety specialist, AI safety & governance advisor, and community strategist. Over the past 15+ years, he has protected 1B+ user messaging ecosystems, led open-source communities with Mozilla across East Africa, founded digital media ventures, and advised international development programmes.
Since May 2020, I have worked on Trust & Safety policy and operations for a top-tier global messaging platform—applying platform policies, investigating complex abuse reports, calibrating quality standards, and escalating high-risk threats across a billion-user ecosystem.
Before and alongside my Trust & Safety work, I spent over a decade building open-source and youth technology ecosystems across Uganda and East Africa. With Mozilla, I served as a Mozilla Representative, Reps Mentor, Community Manager, and founded Mozilla Festival East Africa (2014 & 2015)—reaching more than 10,000 people through open-web, coding, and cybersecurity literacy events.
I also co-founded Generation Open (GenOpen) to mentor young people on responsible internet use, founded digital media ventures Innovware and Newslibre, led technical talent community work at Andela, and consulted on digital development initiatives with Every1Mobile, IPE Triple Line, and Streetlights Uganda.
Past consulting and community initiatives have included projects funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, UNFPA, and GSMA Mobile for Development (via Every1Mobile and IPE Triple Line).
